Why Band?

Why should I choose band?

Joining the band is like making friends with music! It's not just about playing instruments – it's about sharing feelings and creating something amazing together. Being in the band is like joining a big family where we all play different parts but come together to make something awesome. It's a way to have fun, feel different emotions, and make memories that stay with us even after the music stops. Not only do you get to learn a new skill and some awesome life lessons, but you also get to meet so many people throughout the years and share experiences and trips that will stay with you for a lifetime. So, join the band, and let's make music and memories together!

Common Known Facts and Figures:

  • Improved Academic Performance: Studies have shown that students involved in music programs tend to perform better academically, particularly in subjects such as math and reading.

  • Enhanced Memory and Attention: Learning to play an instrument requires memorization and concentration, which can improve overall memory and attention span.

  • Music uses both sides of the brain at one time, having to make mathematical decisions about timing and counting while making creative decisions.

  • Students who stay in the band through college can earn scholarships for playing in a college ensemble even if they don't major in music.

Commonly Asked Questions:

  • Can I do band and sports?
YES! We have many students who do band and sports/theater/FFA/FCLA and many other activities. Communication is key on sharing students and we love to watch them succeed in all of their activities!

  • How will I be placed on an instrument?
The directors have a process that starts with you taking our listening test. From there you sign up for our instrument testing day and we get to meet you and we take information on your personality, your physical traits, and how you handle the mouthpiece for each instrument. Some instruments will feel more natural than others and we want to make sure we put you on an instrument that will help you to feel more successful rather than something that may be more frustrating to start. â€‹â€‹

  • What instruments do you start in 6th grade?
We start the following instruments: Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Euphonium, Trombone, Tuba, and Percussion!

  • Can I do guitar in band?
We do not have guitar players in our main band class, but if a student starts band on an instrument listed above and plays guitar on the side and joins jazz band in middle school there are opportunities to play guitar and their main band instrument! Students must stay in the main band class to take jazz!

Other Reasons to Join Band: â€‹

  • Band Family: The peers that are in band with you become almost like a second family especially during the high school experience. We are here to build each other up and cheer each other on through the entire band process.

  • Life Skills: Our students don't only learn about music in band! We teach all sorts of life skills that will help them to grow into great adults. We teach time management, responsibility of ones own parts, how to work independently and with a group, and learning how to grow through a new skill at a later stage in life. These and many more life lessons are taught and help our students to become successful adults.

  • Trips: The band takes many trips throughout the year! In 6th grade, we get to attend our first contest trip that is associated with a fun event! In middle school, we take different trips for different auditions and contests. In high school, we take many trips for football games, contests, auditions, and even a big trip (this year we are going to Orlando during spring break) that happens every 4 years!
